Döhler Group Acquires SVZ in The Netherlands
Döhler Group, a German global producer, marketer, and provider of technology-driven natural ingredients, custom ingredients, and integrated solutions, acquired SVZ, a food ingredients supplier based in the Netherlands, on July 20, 2023. SVZ’s previous owner, Royal Cosun, had said it was looking for a buyer, and the Döhler acquisition responds to the consumer trend for healthier nutrition.

Our Take on the Acquisition
SVZ (target) supplies fruit and vegetable ingredients to food and drink manufacturers worldwide. It has production sites in Europe and the United States and a tropical fruit ingredients subsidiary, Netra Agro, in Breda, Netherlands. The acquisition sees Döhler take over SVZ’s production sites in Belgium, Poland, Spain, and the United States, which will allow for expansion in the United States and Japan.
Döhler Group (acquirer) is looking to expand its division in the United States, where it sees higher demand. It will be able to integrate SVZ’s U.S. locations to supply Döhler’s other business segments. It may also be looking to diversify revenue sources away from Europe, which has a challenging economic outlook and heightened uncertainty.

“Natural” on food labels is neither defined nor regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, even though the agency regulates and supervises food production. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, in contrast, defines natural as “A product containing no artificial ingredient or added color and is only minimally processed.
